The Challenge
We are hiring an entry-level engineer to be our Assistant Bridge Maintenance Engineer.
In this role, you will:
- Assist our Division Bridge Maintenance Engineer with administration and planning of Bridge Maintenance Crew operations, Critical Finds, Priority Maintenance, and Recommended Repairs of Inventory Structures.
- Help manage purchase orders and Small Business Enterprise (SBE) contracts in the maintenance and repair of Bridge Maintenance Structures.
- Help manage our Bridge Maintenance budget.
- Use your professional engineering skills and knowledge to conduct engineering investigations and determine repairs to resolve bridge maintenance and safety problems.
- Supervise technicians in the inspection and maintenance of bridge inventory and non-inventory assets.
- Prepare and administer contracts.
- Drive state vehicles.
- Evaluate performance of junior staff.
- Effectively establish, communicate, and maintain good working relationships with coworkers, the public, vendors, and local government agencies.
- Promote a safe working environment and lead by example.
What You Bring
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of Bridge Maintenance Construction operations.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve basic engineering problems.
- Knowledge of engineering standards, policies, and procedures related to transportation.
- Experience maintaining records, reports, and writing memos/emails that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts.
- Knowledge of materials used in maintenance and construction of bridges, culverts, and pipes.
- Ability to read and interpret bridge and roadway construction plans.
- Skills to analyze and solve difficult bridge maintenance and construction problems.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office, CAD, Wigins, and SAP applications.
- Safety toe footwear.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Note
- We may require registration as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
