The Texas 4-H Youth Outreach Program offers summer camp experiences to first generation 4-H Youth. Camp structure and design is created based on requirements from various local/state agencies. As a 4-H Youth Outreach team member, you can impact over 500 youth this summer. Our staff have a variety of duties, but here are a few:·

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

o Planning

o Plan, facilitate and evaluate all 4-H Youth Outreach camps,

o Plan an educational, structured camp program based on 4-H philosophy and goals utilizing 4-H curriculum and American

o Coordinate with Youth Outreach Director and Administrative Associate to maintain the established budget.

o Order all materials and supplies.

o Work with camp host site/facility staff to organize transportation to and from camp.

Promotion and Marketing

o Work to develop timely camp promotional letters and brochures.

o Prepare media releases for use in the counties and local media.

o Encourage promotion of camps to clubs and schools.

Coordination of 4-H Youth Outreach Camping Volunteers

o Review and update job descriptions for camp counselor.

o Work with Extension staff to select and screen (as appropriate) counselors, and adult chaperones.

o Help volunteers plan their workshops, classes and activities, including developing supply lists and agendas.

o Work with Extension staff, steering committee, and volunteers to develop and promote teamwork and cohesiveness among counselors and adult staff.

o Coordinate meals with camp cook and facilities with camp manager.

o Promote communication between Extension staff, volunteers, and parents.

o Work with Extension staff, steering committee, and volunteers to facilitate all camp counselors to complete the 4-H membership process and additional required trainings

Records

o Work with 4-H Youth Outreach staff to maintain up-to-date camp records, files, strategic plan and Youth Protection Standards.

o Ensure all appropriate records are available to the camp nurse, bus chaperones, and at camp in general.

o Turn over all camp records and files to the 4-H Youth Outreach Program Director upon completion of last camp. Director will audit, review and file for reference for the next years director.

Evaluation

o Written camp evaluation for youth and adult staff.

o All copies will be on file with camp director and Youth Outreach program office.

o Conduct an evaluation of each camp with campers to be used to plan future camps.

o Hold a teen counselor/adult chaperone evaluation event (picnic, pizza party, etc.) used to gain input for future planning.

o Conduct an overall camping evaluation to be shared with the funding sources.

Other Duties

o Arrange annual camping schedule and share with appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner.

o Work with County Extension Office faculty and staff.

o Adhere to and enforce the Texas 4-H Code of conduct at all camp activities.

Time Required:

o Due to the nature of this position, duties require irregular hours.

o Hourly equivalent of approximately 167 days which includes 4-6 planning/training meetings with counselors.

o 20 full days for camps are included in the 167 days.

o Approximately 3 days evaluation and wrap-up time per camp.

o Attend Camp Steering Committee meetings

o Program planning begins in March, counselor training begins in April, and camps run in June, July and August.

o Position will begin March 1, 2019, or as soon as a suitable candidate is identified.

Salary and Compensation:

o Salary depends on education, experience and grant funding

o March 1 through August 15.

o Room and board provided during camps.

o This is a part-time/seasonal position and has no employment benefits attached.

Minimum Qualifications:

o Experience and education in teaching and working with youth ages 8 to 18.

o High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (4 years) work experience in the field of camp management or youth education strongly desired.

o Current CPR/first aid certification (may be attained upon hire).

o Experience in planning and developing programs and budgets.

o Ability to motivate and interface with teens, parents, and volunteers.

o Employment contingent upon the successful completion of the Texas 4-H background check.

o Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write concise reports, and effectively speak to audiences of youth and adults.

Desired Qualifications:

o Previous overnight camping experience

o Experience with the 4-H youth development program.

o Experience with program marketing and promotion
