The Engineer III performs one or more of the following: advanced, independent engineering work reviewing permit applications, serving as an expert witness, participating in rule development, performing engineering analysis, planning, and designing, management of engineering construction, maintenance, and/or operations projects; and/or serving as a project manager.
- Coordinate with District staff, cooperating agencies, stakeholders, consultants, and the public to complete project tasks within statutory timeframes.
- Use and maintain District GPS equipment to collect accurate locations of infrastructure relating to permits or applications.
- Review and certify the work of other engineers as required by Florida Statutes. Train junior staff to ensure professional development.
- Provide interagency coordination and represent the District.
- Prepare Board materials, including technical staff reports, memos, Final Orders, exhibits, and location maps.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, as needed.
- Perform some of the following duties specific to the assigned District Office:
- Perform hydrological data analysis, modeling and coordination with the MFL and Water Supply offices. Provide interpretation of results.
- Develop and review projects and regulatory strategies for MFL prevention and recovery plans.
- Assist with technical report writing in order to meet project goals and objectives.
- Coordinate with contractors on methods used for the MFL development process.
- Conduct technical reviews on document deliverables from District contractors and peer reviewers.
- Oversee contractual management of outsourced tasks for the MFL office.
- Provide data and technical assistance to state and local agencies, consultants, and the general public.
- Evaluate compliance with MFL and MFL recovery strategies; communicate and implement new regulations associated with new or updated MFL analysis.
- Compile necessary data for long-term water supply planning and balance the water needs of people with the preservation of natural systems.
- Perform groundwater withdrawal modeling.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
