MA SUMMARY

Work collaboratively with the care team and community resources to coordinate care and services. Become fully functional in the use of the electronic medical record (EMR) and follow the EMR Manual instructions. Work within the scope of duties as appropriate for the situation as outlined below. Medical Assistant may not perform any service that calls for the exercise of nursing judgment. Does not refer to self as a nurse or allow others to do so.

MA ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WITH ALL PROVIDERS include the following:

  1. Participate in care team meetings and pre-visit planning.
  2. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  3. Assists Provider in examinations.
  4. Interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, and weight/BMI, obtains tobacco status, and records information on patient charts.
  5. Assists in the collection of non-invasive laboratory specimens for which training has been given.
  6. Gives instructions to patients as instructed by Provider.
  7. Tracks labs, imaging tests, and consults/referrals until results are available.
  8. Keeps medical records in accordance to procedures and forms.
  9. Follows principles of medical ethics for medical assistant
  10. Keeps rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies
  11. Maintain strictest confidentiality.
  12. Any other duties as assigned within MA’s scope of practice.

MA ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ONLY WITH A PHYSICIAN ON SITE include the following:

  1. Assists with any procedures within MA’s scope of practice.
  2. Invasive procedures within MA’s scope of practice to include venipunctures and non-intravenous injections.

LPN SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing practical nursing care to clinic patients under supervision of providers and Center Manager. Work collaboratively with the care team and community resources to coordinate care and services. Become fully functional in the use of the electronic medical record (EMR) and follow the EMR Manual instructions.

LPN ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Participate in care team meetings and pre-visit planning.
  2. Interview patient to determine medical problem/condition and documents in the EMR for provider.
  3. Obtain and record patient’s vital signs, height/weight/BMI, tobacco status, and last menstrual period, when applicable.
  4. Assist the provider(s) with examinations as needed.
  5. Review provider’s orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patient.
  6. Document services performed for medical records and billing purposes.
  7. Dress wounds, applies compresses, ice bags.
  8. Administer specified medication, orally or by subcutaneous or intramuscular injections, and notes time and amount in patients’ EMR.
  9. Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
  10. Collect samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum from patients for testing.
  11. Track lab tests until results are available, flagging and following up on overdue results.
  12. Follows up with patients on lab results, including the scheduling of any additional tests.
  13. Follow provider’s orders to notify patients of normal and abnormal lab and imaging test results, communicating the provider’s advice and instructions.
  14. Follow EMR manual instructions to coordinate referrals for patients. Obtains instructions through insurance and other provider’s offices.
  15. Track imaging tests and referrals until results are available, flagging and following up on overdue results.
  16. Follow up with inpatient facilities or newborn screening website to obtain newborn hearing and blood-spot screening (NA for adults).
  17. Promote wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating provider’s advice and instructions.
  18. Adhere to OSHA/infection control/safety and VFC guidelines, maintaining equipment, instruments and stock supplies.
  19. Maintain strictest confidentiality.
  20. Any other duties as assigned by lead provider or CMO.

MA EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

1. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program and RMA or CMA. Minimum 5 years work experience as an MA with RMA or CMA can be substituted in place of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

2. Proof and maintenance of RMA or CMA throughout employment required.

  1. Minimum of one-year work experience, preferred.
  2. Must have and maintain BLS certification.

LPN EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  2. LPN License issued by the Board of Nursing.
  3. BLS Certification.
