The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society– The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) mission is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since 1949, LLS has been on the forefront of blood cancer advances such as chemotherapies and stem cell transplantation leading the way to the targeted therapies and immunotherapies that are saving thousands of lives today.

Completely virtual internship.

Patient and Community Outreach Internship– The Education Services Department is committed to providing up-to-date reliable information, support resources, financial assistance and programs to blood cancer patients and their families. This internship will provide the opportunity to build relationships in the community, speak and connect with healthcare professionals and patients, as well as learn invaluable organization and self-determination skills. Interns will help manage, but are not limited to the following tasks:

  • Connect with patients that have utilized LLS patient programs and provide them with local programs, services and opportunities to get involved
  • Develop an outreach plan to increase Leukemia & Lymphoma Society patient referrals in Connecticut, Upstate NY and VT through building relationships with healthcare facilities and professionals
  • Create education and marketing materials for support groups, education programs, patient packets and other related mission events in Connecticut, Upstate NY and VT
  • Represent LLS and the Education Services Department at campaign events, community health fairs and expos

Qualifications, Hours and Compensation– Interns should be college students studying social work, sociology, human services, public health, communications, marketing, public relations, non-profit management or a related field. Successful candidates will have the following qualities and skills:

  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal & Writing Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Professional demeanor and appearance
  • Confidentiality with all patient/donor/volunteer information

Internships are available during the spring, summer and fall. Students must own a laptop. Some events may require the student to work nights or weekends when available. Internships are not paid. Interns who seek college credit for their experience should work with LLS to meet criteria.
