Position Summary & Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for performing all duties through a team approach to risk management that addresses criminogenic indicators and needs. The work of this position requires ongoing proactive communication and interaction with inmates. Assists inmates assigned to caseload with adjustment to incarceration, program completion, rule compliance, release planning and reintegration into the community. Utilizes and demonstrates risk reduction skills including motivational interviewing and cognitive strategies. Attends Kansas Parole Board hearings for assigned inmates. Assists uniformed security staff in times of emergency.

A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences. Experience may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency. Substitutions deemed relevant are: completion of 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, including 12 hours in corrections, criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and two years of experience in the field of adult corrections may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
Must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the position.
Applicant will be able to interact with co-workers, inmates and outside personnel to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Applicant selected will have strong organizational skills and function with minimal supervision and direction.
Licensing & Certification:
Preference will be given to those applicants with previous experience in corrections.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
Must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services. Must pass a physical exam, background investigation and submit a State of Kansas Tax Clearance.
