The Wagers laboratory studies the biology and function of adult tissue-specific stem cells, particularly those that form the skeletal muscle and blood. Current topics of investigation include regulation of stem cell function in normal tissue and under abnormal conditions such as aging and cancer, as well as methods for editing stem cell genomes using CRISPR/Cas9 for experimental and therapeutic purposes. The lab is seeking highly motivated candidates to assist in ongoing experiments that include mouse work (colony maintenance, husbandry, genotyping, tissue harvest and functional studies, etc.), cell culture, molecular biology techniques, flow cytometry, immunostaining, and bioassays.

The Research Assistant will also perform a variety of basic and general lab support and clerical tasks, including ordering and stocking of supplies, maintenance of equipment and preparation and storage of shared reagents. Work will be performed under specific direction of the PI, research manager and/or senior lab members, although it is expected that certain research-related tasks will be performed independently, within the guidelines of and subject to review by the PI and research staff. The Research Assistant will also participate in frequent team meetings involving lab members and external collaborators, and, under the direction of the PI and senior research staff, will be expected to participate in the preparation and presentation of research results and summaries. Strong organizational and communication skills (both written and oral) are essential.

The Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology and the FAS are committed to cultivating not only the diversity of our faculty, staff, and students but also in developing an inclusive culture that is vibrant, engaging and encouraging of innovation as well as intellectual debate. We believe creating and maintaining an inclusive workplace allows employees from all backgrounds and walks of life to achieve their fullest potential. We also believe an inclusive culture is one that accepts, values and views as strength the difference we all bring to the workplace.
