Chosen applicants work as full-time staff members of FCNL from Summer 2023 to Summer 2024, collaborating with key staff members to build expertise in advocacy from a public interest perspective. Benefits include salary, health care, paid vacation, and sick leave.
Fellows work under the title “Program Assistant” and work directly with FCNL staff, gaining first-hand knowledge of the legislative process and the organizing and communications work that is necessary for policy change.
POTENTIAL PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE:
- Advocacy: Lobby Congress and build grassroots campaigns to encourage constituents and members of Congress to take action by providing them with information on critical issues.
- Outreach: Help build democracy by organizing campaigns and workshops that empower people around the country to engage with elected officials in Washington.
- Communication: Draft action alerts, letters, and background reports to keep constituents informed and to express FCNL’s position to Congress and the administration
- Research: Attend congressional committee hearings and coalition meetings and analyze documents and reports.
In the Fellowship program, you can work as a Program Assistant on nine different teams – 7 policy and 2 outreach/grassroots teams.
7 Program Assistants will work in policy portfolios. These positions will work closely with our legislative teams on lobbying members of Congress, attending coalition meetings, writing bill analyses, etc. The positions include:
- Program Assistant for Migration Policy
- Program Assistant for Militarism and Human Rights
- Program Assistant for Justice Reform
- Program Assistant for Sustainable Energy and Environment
- Program Assistant for Middle East Policy
- Program Assistant for Peacebuilding
- Program Assistant for Nuclear Disarmament and Pentagon Spending
2 Program Assistants will work on outreach teams. These positions will help build grassroots support for our various issues by organizing constituents, building relationships with people around the country, and training advocates to lobby their members of Congress. The positions include:
- Program Assistant for Quaker Outreach
- Program Assistant for Young Adult Outreach
Eligibility Criteria:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Demonstrate a commitment to social justice, policy advocacy, or community outreach in the areas we work on.
- Willing to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including booster by the start date of this position. If there is a medical or religious exemption needed, it must be communicated.
- Be available to work in-person from an office environment starting in Summer 2023
Commitment:
- Available to commute to Washington, DC for the entirety of the Program Assistant Fellowship.
- Commit to attending the entirety of the Fellowship. Program Assistants are responsible for making their own housing arrangements – FCNL does not cover the cost of housing.
- Commit to traveling within the U.S during October 2023 to assist with recruiting for our Young Adult Program at the applicant’s alma mater and surrounding schools/groups.
Compensation & Benefits:
- PA/Fellows are paid hourly $22.86, minimum of $3,715 per month
