One Natural Resources Technician (Seasonal Worker, Full-time, 40 hours/week) position is available with the Colorado State University (CSU) Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position will provide support to the natural resources program at Robins Air Force Base (AFB), Georgia. Successful candidates will gain excellent, entry-level experience in practical applications of natural resource and invasive species management. Military affiliation is not required to apply for this position.
The Natural Resources Technician will provide support to the Robins AFB Natural and Cultural Resources manager on a variety of green-infrastructure initiatives, including urban forestry management, pollinator habitat restoration, stormwater management, and invasive species management. The projects will include replacing turf with pollinator-friendly vegetation and managing invasive plant species with mechanical tools and chemical treatments. Invasive species management also may include efforts to survey, trap, and study feral swine populations on the installation. In addition, the Technician will assist with surveying threatened and endangered species and monitoring timber harvests to ensure that best management practices are used, which will entail delineating boundaries using a hand-held GPS unit. A majority of the Technician’s time will be spent working independently in the field, although some time also will be spent performing administrative duties, including word processing and electronic filing. Overall, this position will provide a variety of useful experiences in natural resources management, both in the field and in an administrative setting.
The work period will not exceed 140 working days. The anticipated start and end dates are 15 April and 15 November 2021, respectively.
