We are seeking community– and service–oriented certified officers and non-certified applicants to perform diverse tasks focused on working with the community to solve problems; to protect life and property by patrolling assigned areas; to enforce laws and regulations; to investigate complaints; to prepare detailed reports; and to perform other law enforcement related activities.Special Notes Pay range for certified law enforcement officers with post academy service (rates effective July 1, 2021):
2 – 4 years of post academy service: $29.41/hour ($61,173)
4 – 5 years of post academy service: $31.12/hour ($64,730)
5+ years of post academy service: $32.87/hour ($68,370)

Requirements Qualified applicants MUST:
• Possess a high school diploma or GED AND an Associate’s Degree or two (2) years of college (60 credits) in any academic major. Education substitutes are three (3) years of active military duty or three (3) years of service as a sworn officer.
• Be twenty-one (21) years of age on or before date of written entrance examination.
• Be a citizen of the United States at the time of application.
• Have uncorrected vision of not less than 20/100 in both eyes, corrected to 20/20, and color vision consistent with the Occupational demands of law enforcement.
• Possess a valid (Iowa) driver’s license and good driving record.
• Be of good moral character and have not been convicted of a felony or crime involving moral turpitude. (Police Officer Candidate Disqualifiers)

Civil Service Exam An examination consisting of several steps will be administered for this position. For applicants submitting all required materials and meeting the minimum requirements, the steps are as follows: application packet evaluation, initial background investigation, physical agility test (PAT), a written (POST) examination, oral board exams, in-depth background investigations, ride alongs, polygraphs, and command staff review
WDMPD places a high priority on the health and safety of our applicants and employees. We will have measures in place to ensure that the process will meet current COVID-19 guidelines, to include social distancing, masks, and multiple testing times depending on the number of applicants required to test. The tentative schedule of exams is as follows:
Saturday, March 27, 2021 (morning)
Physical Agility Test (PAT) – ALL Applicants
*Certified officers in the State of Iowa with no more than a six-month break in service will *not* be required to complete the PAT.
*Passing PAT (Cooper Test) scores from other agencies within the State of Iowa will be accepted if the test occurred on or after December 27, 2020. The results need to be submitted directly from the agency to Human Resources via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or fax it to 515-273-0601.
*A Conditioning Camp designed to help you prepare for the physical agility testing will be held during the week of February 22, 2021, for those interested. (These test results will *not* be accepted by the WDMPD for the hiring process. The results will only be a guide for the applicant.) Attendance is *not* required.
