The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is one of the nation’s leading non-profits working on public policy issues affecting low-income families and individuals. It has a national reputation for conducting rigorous research and analysis, developing policy ideas and strategies, shaping a broad array of policy debates at the federal and state levels, and influencing policy outcomes. It works on budget and tax policy, health care, social insurance, and a range of programs important to low-income people. The Center’s funding comes from private foundations and individuals.

The Center seeks an Assistant/Associate Editor to join the Communications team. This two-year term position offers an opportunity for an individual with some editorial experience to gain skills and experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment to help the Center meet its policy goals.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and proofread materials for an array of key audiences, including federal and state policymakers, opinion leaders, media, and the general public.
  • Edit fact sheets, chart books, blog posts, and other documents to make them more accessible and effective.
  • Proofread documents for correct spelling, punctuation, usage, and grammar.
  • Maintain department tracker of materials at different stages of production.
  • Perform other editorial tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Assistant Editor-Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of experience editing, preferably in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Associate Editor -Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of experience editing, preferably in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience editing materials on policy issues preferred but not required.
  • Excellent command of spelling, grammar, and usage.
  • Excellent editing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on documents as part of a team.
  • Ability to edit work in the Center’s voice and style.
  • Ability to incorporate feedback constructively.
  • Ability to work on tight timelines and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Office 365, particularly Word.
  • Commitment to the Center’s mission to improve the well-being of low- and moderate-income people.
  • Commitment to advancing multiple dimensions of equity and inclusion, including racial and gender equity, in written products as well as in the Center’s internal and external relationships.
  • Experience editing materials in translation and/or Spanish-language fluency a plus.

This position reports to the Deputy Editorial Director.

Terms of Employment: Full-time, exempt. This is a two-year term position.

Bargaining Unit Status: This is a bargaining unit position.

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience, excellent benefits (including health insurance, vision and dental coverage, life and long-term disability insurance, retirement, MERP, and DCAP), and generous vacation, sick leave, and holiday schedules.
