Unique student nurse summer internship opportunity working with kids at Camp Zeke! Camp Zeke celebrates healthy, active living through whole foods, sports, fitness and culinary arts! We are located on 560 serene acres in Northeastern, PA and have campers ages 7-17. While Camp Zeke is a Jewish camp, our staff come from all different backgrounds.
Make a difference in the lives of campers while gaining real world nursing experience in an amazing setting at Camp Zeke, a sleep-away camp in the Poconos. Candidate must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing, entering their Junior or Senior year of school. Looking for energetic, highly motivated, and mature nursing student in good academic standing.
Responsibilities include:
I. Health Center Management
a. Organize Health Center.
i. Keep building clean, organized and sanitary.
ii. Maintain supplies and equipment.
b. Assist with twice daily “sick call” of campers and staff.
iii. Assist with emergencies as needed.
II. Medication Management
a. Help keep all medication organized, locked and secured in the health center.
b. Assist nurse to dispense Rx medication as prescribed and PRN medication as needed to campers and staff.
c. Drive to fill and re-fill prescriptions as necessary at the local drug store.
d. Assist nurse and doctor to chart all administered medication.
e. Ensure we have EpiPens in all main buildings of camp.
f. Create and distribute first aid kits around camp and ensure they stay full throughout the
summer.
III. Record Keeping
a. Learn the details of Camp Minder’s online record keeping tools.
b. Work with infirmary manager to meticulously document every camper medical issue in
Camp Minder.
c. Ensure every camper and staff member has an accurate and complete health record on
file
d. Assist infirmary staff to maintain Daily Medication Record for every person that receives Rx and PRN medication.
e. Record notations in the health record every time a person is seen by a nurse or goes to the local medical clinic.
IV. Opening/Closing Days
a. Help intake all medication.
b. Assist with health screen of all campers.
c. Return unused medication to campers on closing day.
You will work with a highly educated staff where you will learn many aspects of pediatrics, primary care and emergency management. You will live in a cabin with campers and assist with daily in cabin duties as needed.
This 8-week position runs from June 20-August 16th which includes 7 weeks with campers and 1 week of orientation. Applicants must be available for the full 8 weeks. Opportunity to work for an additional weeks available. Room, board and a small stipend provided. Interview required.
