The Barnes-Jewish Hospital Nurse Externship offers a learning experience for you to participate in direct patient care while receiving expert direction from nurse preceptors.

During this 11-week paid immersive experience, you can expect to gain clinical skills, confidence in your practice, and mentor connections to support your career development.

-Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided.

-Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient’s needs.

-Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse.

-Collects clinical data and information on patients, and documents appropriately.

-Instructs patients in preparations for tests and procedures.

-BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
