Horticulture Trainee will gain horticultural experience assisting the Growing and the Research and Development staff with a variety of tasks at a commercial greenhouse.
Learning objectives with the Growing Team will involve managing plant quality (understanding nutrition requirements for multiple crops), Manipulating irrigational strategies to fit specified crops, propagation of both seeds and vegetative cuttings and monitoring pests with appropriate IPM (integrated pest management) system.
Learning objectives with the R&D Team will involve conducting professional chemical, genetic, biological and laboratory based Trials and experiments. We will host a special R&D event with our suppliers, customers and consumers during this internship that will involve marketing and consumer research.
The preferred internship period is from January to December to experience multiple crops over three major growing seasons, Easter bulbs, finished spring annuals and perennials, mums and poinsettias. We will attempt to work with students that are seeking a semester or summer program.
